The Elk County Amateur Radio Association, ECARA, is a group of amateur radio enthusiasts based in Ridgway Pennsylvania area who meet and engage in activities to further the advancement of this hobby for the good of ourselves and the community. Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the need for the Internet, phone lines or cell phones.

ECARA sponsors repeaters in the area that are ready for personal and emergency communications. The club maintains a radio network available to civil authority if first line systems fail as well as providing a means of relaying information for local events. If you would like ECARA to help with event communications please contact using the contact us form.

The system is open for use by any properly licensed amateur and we encourage hams local or otherwise to use the system.

The ECARA is dedicated to helping interested individuals discover the world of radio. Being a radio operator requires a FCC license which is obtained through a proctored exam. ECARA hosts many exam sessions throughout the year and offers help to those who need help understanding the exam material.

This website houses our forums which are open to the public to read however posting can only be performed by ECARA members.  If you have an interest in learning more about ham radio we encourage you to come to one of our club meetings. We have meetings on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:30pm in the Ridgway Courthouse Annex, 300 Center Street. All are welcome to visit and ask questions. If you would like to join ECARA or have any questions please use the contact tab at the top and send an email and we will get the process rolling.

Please watch our community calendar for club meetings, exams, and ECARA events.
